In recent years, there has been an explosion of different ways we can do business with one another; from the gifting economy popularised by Charles Eisenstein, to the Resource Based Economy The Zeitgeist Movement and Venus Project promote, to Michael Tellinger’s Ubuntu Contributionsm. The alternatives offered all have one common thread: they aim to reduce or eliminate the need for money. Though we’d like to be free from debt slavery tomorrow, reality dictates there will be a transitional period, which is making many people think outside the box and come up with useful alternatives for us all.
Another concept which aims to reduce our reliance on money, foster community relationships, connection, and exchange is crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing allows us to tap into the collective, to find those with time, resources, or money that may be able to assist, swap ideas, and exchange value with.
We love any initiatives which encourage growth of community, reduce our reliance on money, halt rampant consumerism, and promote freedom. We’re quite taken by the idea of crowdsourcing, and were glad to speak today with Rossco Paddison, founder of GatherChange (a new online platform which combines crowdsourcing with crowdfunding) about the topic. We chose GatherChange as the platform for our crowdfunding campaign for this reason.
